Annual Wellness Visit

Your annual wellness visit is one of the most important appointments of the year — and it’s not just about being sick. It’s a dedicated time to step back, look at the full picture of your health, and make a plan for the year ahead.

At Gilbert Center, your wellness visit is about more than checking boxes. We want to understand where you are, where you’re headed, and what we can do together to keep you feeling your best.

Your Visit

What We Cover During Your Visit

Your wellness visit is a comprehensive review of your overall health. Depending on your age, history, and concerns, we may:

Review Your Health History
Update your medication list and review any current prescriptions. Discuss your family health history and how it affects your risk factors. Review past lab results and follow up on any outstanding concerns. Ask about lifestyle factors — sleep, stress, diet, physical activity.

Complete a Physical Examination
Check vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, and BMI. Examine heart, lungs, abdomen, skin, and other systems as appropriate. Screen for depression, anxiety, alcohol use, and other behavioral health factors.

Order Preventive Screenings
Recommend age-appropriate lab work such as cholesterol, blood glucose, and thyroid panels. Refer for cancer screenings such as colonoscopy, mammogram, or skin exam when indicated. Review and update your vaccination status.

Build a Prevention Plan
Set personalized health goals for the coming year. Discuss any concerns you've been putting off addressing. Schedule follow-up visits for any conditions that need closer attention.

What Your Annual Visit Is Not: Your wellness visit is specifically designed for preventive care — not for evaluating or treating new or acute symptoms. If you're dealing with a new illness, injury, or worsening condition, that's a separate appointment. Let our team know when you schedule if you have additional concerns so we can plan accordingly.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Come with a list of your current medications (including supplements), any health questions or concerns you've been meaning to raise, and your insurance card. If you've had labs or imaging done elsewhere recently, bringing those results is helpful too.

It depends on whether we plan to draw fasting labs. When you schedule, our team can let you know whether fasting is recommended for your visit.

Yes — and we encourage it. Your wellness visit is a great time to mention things you've been wondering about. If a concern needs more time or a separate evaluation, we'll schedule a follow-up visit so it gets the attention it deserves.

They overlap, but there are differences. A wellness visit emphasizes preventive care planning and risk assessment. A physical may involve a more thorough hands-on examination. Your provider can help determine which type of visit is best for your current needs.
