Preventive & Routine Care

Pediatric & Adolescent Care

Children and teens have their own distinct health needs at every stage of development. At Gilbert Center, we provide comprehensive care for infants, children, and adolescents — from newborn wellness visits through the transition to adult care — all within the context of your family's primary care home.

Our goal is to build a relationship with your child that helps them feel comfortable with healthcare now and confident about managing their own health as they grow.

Care at Every Stage

Well-Child Visits

Routine well-child visits are the foundation of pediatric care. They give us a chance to track your child's growth and development, catch concerns early, and keep vaccinations on schedule. Recommended visit frequency generally follows this pattern:

  • Newborn: 3–5 days after birth
  • Infancy: 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months
  • Toddler years: 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months
  • Preschool: annually starting at age 3
  • School age and adolescence: annually

At each visit, we track height, weight, and development; perform age-appropriate screenings; update vaccinations; and discuss nutrition, sleep, safety, and any concerns you or your child may have.

Adolescent Health

The teenage years bring unique changes — physically, emotionally, and socially. Our providers offer a confidential, judgment-free space where adolescents can ask questions and get honest answers about the things they're navigating.

We address:

  • Puberty and physical development
  • Mental and emotional health, including anxiety, depression, and stress
  • Nutrition and healthy habits
  • Reproductive health and HPV vaccination
  • Substance use screening and counseling
  • Sports physicals and injury prevention
  • Transition to adult care planning

Sick Visits for Children

When your child isn't feeling well, we want to see them quickly. We make every effort to offer same-day sick appointments for established pediatric patients. Common concerns we see include ear infections, strep throat, respiratory illness, stomach bugs, skin rashes, and more.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Bring your child's insurance card, their immunization records if we don't already have them, and any growth or development concerns you'd like to discuss. For infants, a list of feeding and sleep patterns is helpful.

We typically offer adolescent patients (usually 12 and older) some private time with the provider during their visit. This gives teens a chance to ask questions they might not feel comfortable asking with a parent present. Confidentiality has limits — we will involve parents if we have serious safety concerns.

Let us know ahead of time — we have approaches to help make vaccinations as comfortable as possible. Distraction techniques, topical numbing, and having your child take a deep breath during the injection are all strategies we can walk you through.

Yes. We manage a range of pediatric chronic conditions including asthma, ADHD, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and more. When a condition requires a specialist, we'll coordinate referrals and stay connected to your child's overall care.
